Six Tips for Dealing with Stress

As you, and all of the stores, begin to prepare for the holiday season, don’t let the stress bring you down. Here are six practical tips to combat stress that may come with work, family, holiday party planning or even day-to-day life.

Find a hobby

Pursuing a hobby can help put your mind on something you enjoy, whether it is hiking, gardening or learning something new, and less on the stress.

Criticize less

When we criticize someone, including ourselves, we can increase the level of stress both of us feel. Try to focus on constructive suggestions instead of criticism.

Make exercise a priority

Exercise provides benefits to both your body and mind. Just remember to be consistent. For adults, the CDC recommends between 20 to 30 minutes of moderate activity per day.

Get your sleep

This is sometimes overlooked, but a good night’s sleep does wonders for both our body and mind. For most of us, that’s between seven to nine hours a night.

Meditate

If stress has you anxious or worried, consider meditation. Researchers are finding that meditation can play a role in reducing stress and anxiety.

Avoid multitasking

As we become more distracted by a combination of technology and our increasingly busy lives, we are prone to multitasking, which can increase our stress level.  Try concentrating on one task as opposed to four or five.
