Exhibition Series Spotlights Mental Health through Projects Focused on Hurting, Healing, Feeling

The New Day Campaign uses “art-based programming and public engagement to challenge stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and substance use, making the world a more healing place.” Based in Baltimore, Md., it was started in 2015 by Peter Bruun after the tragic death of his daughter, Elisif, from a heroin overdose at age 24. What began as a blog post in response to her death became a full-fledged effort to show that “the memory of Elisif—and so many others like her—deserves nothing less than this new day.”

The New Day Campaign has announced it is launching its 2018-2019 Campaign, “Dusk & Dawn: Awakening Hope and Healing.” The campaign features a series of events throughout Maryland. During the week of June 25-30, this campaign launches with an exhibition series on the theme of Hurting, Healing, Feeling at various locations in Harford County. It includes local artists who share their talents through art and the spoken word. Exhibitions include a collage of works by Sharon Strouse, a board-certified and licensed art therapist, live performances from spoken word artist Kondwani Fidel, poet Ann Bracken, and singer Simone A. Speed, and a screening of Elisif’s Story, a video by Peter about the life and passing of Elisif.

To find out more about the events, please check out our events calendar.

MHAMD is proud to be a sponsor of the New Day Campaign.
