Young People Celebrate Mental Health through Art

One of the annual highlights of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week is the Celebrating Through Art: The First Lady’s Mental Health Awareness Youth Art Display & Reception hosted by Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan in Annapolis, which was held last Monday.

The reception featured a display of artwork submitted by close to 50 children and youth from across Maryland.

These works of art were inspired by what makes them feel happy, healthy, and hopeful. This artwork helps to highlight the importance of mental health for children in Maryland.

One of these young artists was Nia Jackson. Here Nia shares what inspired her art work.

The evening featured a presentation to honor the young artists as well as an official proclamation from Governor and Mrs. Hogan to kick off Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

It was a fantastic evening! We want to thank Mrs. Hogan, all of our partners, Maryland Department of Disabilities, Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland Department of Health, Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities, and Center for School Mental Health, and most importantly the students for making this evening possible.
