When someone takes a Mental Health First Aid® Maryland class, they learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an emerging mental health problem or crisis, identify community resources, and link individuals in need of treatment and support to the proper resources. These classes are taught by certified instructors.
These instructors are an essential part of the Mental Health First Aid program. Only certified instructors can teach the Mental Health First Aid® Maryland class. Each instructor earns their certification through a 5-day training course that presents the Mental Health First Aid 8-hour class and provides in-depth instruction on facilitating the course for a variety of audiences. The training includes a written exam and evaluates each candidate’s ability to present the 8-hour Mental Health First Aid class.
There are a number of reasons why a person should consider becoming a Mental Health First Aid Instructor:
- The ability to teach the class and tailor it to best fit the needs of the community in which you serve
- Embedding instructors in communities makes the program easily accessible where people live, work, play, and worship
- On-site instructors allow you to integrate Mental Health First Aid into your current training program
